A fancy intense purplish pink diamond of 5.29 carats sold as the top lot at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale. The diamond realised a value of $5,765,000.
Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Christie’s Jewelry, commented: “Natural pearls achieved very strong prices and a world record $5m was realized for a four-strand natural colored pearl necklace. There was spirited bidding for colored pink and blue diamonds along with all of the JAR creations offered in the auction. We look forward to our Magnificent Jewels auction on May 13 at Christie’s Geneva which features the historic Maria-Christina Royal Devant-de-Corsage brooch.”
The sale held on April 14th, offered 310 lots, of which 238 were bought. realised an overall revenue of $41,951,125.
Apart from the pink diamond making it as the top lot, a four strand natural coloured pear necklace measuring from 12.65 to 4.90 mm went down the hammer making a World Auction Record Price for a Natural Colored Pearl Necklace. The piece sold for $5,093,000. This piece was also the second top lot in the sale. Joining it in the top 10 rank of lots sold, a a single-strand natural pearl necklace measuring from 6.95 to 11.90mm, sold as the eight top lot.
Some of the other lots which made it to the top 10 included a pear shaped D-color potentially internally flawless diamond pendant of 25.49 carats by Graff, a circular cut fancy gray-blue diamond of 5.04 carats, a cushion-shaped Burmese ruby of 9.40 carats, a cushion-cut D-color potentially internally flawless diamond of 11.03 carats, by Graff, an oval-cut fancy purplish pink diamond of 6.57 carats, a pair of emerald, diamond, and colored diamond ear clips, by JAR, a pair of cushion-shaped H-color VS2 diamond ear pendants of 10.82 and 10.42 carats $38,000 per carat
